An In-house Inter Unit/Departmental Presentation, a series that will allow each unit/department to highlight its functions and challenges, has begun at NICO North-Central Zone, Ilorin, Kwara State, with all members of staff of the zone in attendance.
In his opening address, the Zonal Coordinator, Mr. Ohi Ojo, reiterated the need for all to pay serious attention to the presentations, as each unit/department is unique, advising officers to take full advantage of the opportunity being offered, as staffers are from different backgrounds, disciplines and experiences.
In her paper presentation, titled, “The Administrators: Who They Are And What They Do: A Case Study of National Institute for Cultural Orientation,” the Head, Admin and Human Resources, Mrs. Shalom Abolarin, described an administrator as one whose has the responsibility to manage, organise or coordinate the affairs of an organisation.
She said that the administrator is charged with the task of ensuring the day-to-day running of an office, performing the traditional functions of administration, including planning, organising, staffing, directing, coordinating, reporting and budgeting.
Abolarin dwelt on issues relating to discipline, leave, punctuality, conduct, transfer, record keeping/documentation, and so on, further advising staffers to always abide by the code of ethics of the Public Service Rules (PSR), which guides and regulates the behaviour and attitudes of officers, so as to be upright and effective in their work.
During the interactive session, an issue relating to an officer on transfer to another zone proceeding with his/her file to the new zone or not was raised; this was in regard to officers who may inadvertently enjoy double annual leave in a year or whose conduct is not well known to the new Zonal Coordinator; and it was resolved that the issue has to be forwarded to the headquarters for explanation.
The presentations on weekly basis have been scheduled to climax on Monday, 29th February, 2016, when the Zonal Coordinator, Mr. Ohi Ojo is expected to talk on: “The Art of Proposal Writing.”
