Former President of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), Dr. Wale Okediran has stated that Oil Cemetery, a new novel written by Professor May Ifeoma Nwoye, a former Bursar, University of Benin, Benin City, and currently at the Department of Business Administration, IBB University, Lapai, Niger State, is another literature on conflict resolution.
Dr. Okediran stated this while reviewing the book, Oil Cemetery by Professor May Ifeoma Nwoye, at a public presentation on Saturday, 27th February, 2016, at the Nigeria Merit House, Maitama, Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.
He described the book as, “another addition to the growing literature on the political and environmental tragedy of oil exploration in Nigeria,” and commended the author’s proclivity towards non-violence in resolving the crises as advocated in the book.
In his welcome address, the Chairman of the occasion and former Executive Secretary, Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC), Professor Munzali Jibril stated that the author captured the “paradox of oil exploration in Nigeria,” noting that oil, which was supposed to be a blessing for the nation has become a curse because in the process of oil exploration, the host communities have been destroyed.
The author of the book, Professor May Ifeoma Nwoye said that social and economic problems have had special focus in her work and this is also reflected in her creative work, adding that the idea for the book is a reflection of the problems she observed in the Niger Delta region.
The Executive Secretary of National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO), Assoc. Prof. Barclays Foubiri Ayakoroma, was represented at the book presentation by his Special Assistant, Mr. Law Ikay Ezeh, Jr.
