Nigerian theatre scholars, under the aegis the Society of Nigeria Theatre Artists (SONTA) is planning to come out with robust ideas on how change in Nigeria can be managed through theatre and culture.

These ideas will add values to Governance in Nigeria because the conference will focus on Theatre, Culture and Crises Management in Nigerian Democracy, Theatre, Leadership, Arts Administration and Change Management in Nigeria.  

This comes in the Society’s 2016 International Conference in Nnamdi Azikiwe University (NAU), Awka, Anambra State, from 9th to 12th November, 2016, with the theme: “Theatre, Culture and Change Management in Nigeria.”

The keynote address of this 29th edition of conference, tagged, SONTA 2016, will be presented by Professor Duro Oni, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Management Services, University of Lagos.

The conference in which theatre, media, film, dance, music and culture scholars in Nigerian tertiary institutions will deliver papers centring on the theme, also has subthemes like Theatre, Leadership and Change Management; Theatre Culture and Gender Issues in Nigeria; Curriculum Issues in Theatre and Film Studies; Theatre, Culture and Crises Management in Nigerian Democracy; as well as Theatre, Costume, Make-Up and Nigerian Film Industry.

Other subthemes include, Theatre, Film and Leadership in Nigeria; Theatre, Arts Administration and Change Management; Theory and Criticism in Nigerian Theatre Practice; Educational Theatre and Change Management; Theatre, Media and Change Management; Theatre, Set Design and Change Management; Theatre for Development, Rural Communities and Change Management; Film Production and Change Management.

It should be recalled that the National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO), a Parastatal in the Federal Ministry of Information and Culture, hosted the 28th Annual International Conference of the Society of Nigeria Theatre Artists (SONTA), from 3rd-6th August, 2015.

The Institute’s hosting was the first time a government agency, outside a conventional tertiary institution, played host to the conference, at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja-FCT; and it was with the theme, “Repositioning Nollywood for the Promotion of Nigeria’s Cultural Diplomacy and National Security”.
