The State Head of the National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO), Enugu Office, Mr. Nnaemeka Nwajagu, has reiterated his call on Nigerians to preserve and promote their indigenous languages.

Nwajagu, who made the call at the closing ceremony of the 2016/2017 Nigerian Indigenous Language Programme (NILP), on the Saturday, 28th January, 2017, at the Board Room of the NICO Enugu State Office, noted that indigenous language is critical to the development and peaceful co-existence of any nation.

 Nwa1The State Head, who spoke on behalf of NICO’s Executive Secretary, Assoc. Prof. Barclays Foubiri Ayakoroma, stressed that the more people understood themselves, the lesser the frictions in society.

On his part, the Head of Orientation and Cultural Affairs, Mr. Austin Obijuru Okezie, urged participants to make good use of the knowledge gained from the programme to affect society positively thereby reducing the work-load of security officials in fighting crime; and he also noted that, a society without effective use of indigenous language cannot attain economic harmony.

Mr. Emuzor Moses, who spoke on behalf of the facilitators, appreciated NICO Management for the privilege to contribute to the programme; while the Class Rep. and Deputy, who spoke on behalf of participants, thanked Prof. Barclays Ayakoroma led NICO Management, Enugu State Head, the Head of Orientation & Cultural Affairs, the resource persons and other staffers in the office, for their show of love and dedication to duty.
