Mallam Ado Muhammed Yahuza, the Executive Secretary of NICO, expressed his satisfaction over the last edition of NICO Public lecture, that it is remarkable in the history of the Institute.
This he said in his address during the Lecture, entitled “Imperial Cultural Illusions, Delusions and Hallucinations; Major Sources of Africa’s Contemporary Development Crises” held recently in Abuja.
Mallam Ado Yahuza noted that the lecture, which is apt and timely, provided a forum for intellectual discourse on culture and national development. In his words, “Today’s lecture is another remarkable one in the history of the Institute. It is gratifying to say that the previous editions of the public lecture, which was conceptualized as a vibrant programme, have contributed tremendously to the numerous publications of the Institute for researchers and students in the humanities”.
The NICO ES says his determination to build on the legacies of his predecessors following his appointment as Executive Secretary of the Institute, is to ensure greater accomplishment in fulfilling the Institute’s mandate.
He therefore solicited the commitment of all relevant stakeholders to support his course towards returning culture to the front burner of our national development process as a nation. Adding that other countries of the world such as the Asian Tigers understood that culture is a veritable tool for national development and have made it the corner stone of their development agenda
thereby transforming their societies economically.
He opined the Nigerian nation would emulate the Asian Tigers example and use the instrumentality of our indigenous culture to bring about national development.
