The National Institute for cultural Orientation (Nico) kicked off a Four days Training/Re-training workshop for its Research and Documentation staff on Library Management at the Institute’s training school, Abuja study center Jikwoyi on Thursday September 7, 2023.
Declaring the programme open, the Executive Secretary Ado M. Yahuza, represented by the Director/Provost of the training school, Malam Ismaila Ahmad welcome the resource persons and staff involved,emphasized on the qualifications of the resource persons as most of them were retired directors whom have studied library in Nigeria and abroad and worked in various library industries in Nigeria. He said the ES is desirous of professionalizing all arms of the Institute hence the reason Organizing the workshop as a necessary step in equipping the staff. The ES further urged all the staff involved to please listen attentively to the Resource persons in other to utilize the opportunity. It is a privileged to be part of the workshop because one requires years of studies in the university to become a professional librarian,and you are getting it the days of this workshop. The representative of the ES extend executive secretary appreciation to the resource persons and participants,wishing them a successful training .
In furtherance,one of the resource persons Mrs K.A.Akinyede stressed out the need for the training as no one can head a library without being a certified librarian or professional librarian who will be able to catalogue and classify documents.
The resource team includes Retired Director National council for Arts and Culture Abuja Mrs K. A Akinyede ,Mrs Taiwo Dorathy oluwatimisin ( Retired Civil servant , university of Jos library) and Mrs Folasade Adepoyin ( Retired Civil servant) kicks the brains active with their wealth of knowledge on library house keeping, Management of archival materials, Reference services,library Automation, library Technical services, Hands on demonstration of cataloguing and classification of library resources and others ..
On ground to welcome the resource persons were Director/provost Training school ,Deputy Director Mrs Maria okpuzor ( Research and documentation ) ,Mr Patrick Obi (Acting coordinator Training school Abuja cente)r and some other training school staffs with the Documentation and library staff of NICO
