The South East Zonal office of the National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO) Owerri had a celebration galore on Thursday, September 14th, 2023 as it held a retirement/farewell party in honour of the zone’s first retiree Ms. Justina Akhilome, who, until bowing out of service, was a Deputy Director with the Zonal Office.

At the event held at the office premises of the Zonal Office, located at the Federal Secretariat Complex, Port Harcourt Road, Owerri, the South East Zonal Director of the Institute, Mrs. Chioma Duru, in her remarks paid lavish compliment on the celebrant and expressed gratitude to God for preserving the life of the retired Deputy Director and ensuring that she retired in good health and sound mind.

Speaking further, the zonal director made reference to the long relationship between her and Ms Akhilome as far back as the time they were young officers on grade level 10 in Abuja. Acknowledging the fact that they had their challenges, Mrs Duru was appreciative to God for the grace given to them to put aside their differences and work together for the good of NICO. She prayed to God Almighty to bless Ms Akhilome in her endervours as she spends the rest of her days under God’s abundant blessings and favour while making known her desire to be celebrated the same way at her retirement. She urged her to continue to display the good character she is known for which contributed to her success in the Institute.

Laughter, memories and well wishes filled the room, as others who spoke on the life of the celebrant, commended her for her love, motherly care, commitment and dedication, while recognizing the legacies she left behind.

In recognition of her exceptional contributions, the former Deputy Director was presented with a cash gift of One Hundred and Thirty Thousand naira, only (N130,000.00).

On her part, Ms. Akhilome expressed gratitude to the Management and Staff of the Zonal Office, for organizing the farewell party in her honour. Overwhelmed with emotions, she expressed gratitude for the support she experienced throughout her career and also thanked them for the cash gift.

The Drama group of the Zonal Office were not left out, as they presented a playlet that portrayed the true character of Ms. Justina Akhilome – the celebrant!

People present were entertained to their satisfaction, as the organizing Committee provided a lot to eat and drink.
