The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has applauded the Otunba Biodun Ajiboye-led Management of the National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO) on the initiative of a Global Cultural Digital Platform called “DuduPlugs”

This is coming at a time when the government of Nigeria is beginning to recognize that the cultural value of our people will play a very important role in getting the society back.

At a meeting to identify with NCC as important stakeholder in the crusade to revive Nigeria from its seeming decadence, the Executive Secretary/CEO of NICO, Otunba Biodun Ajiboye said telephone has become the most important friend of man with over a hundred million usage by Nigerians and whatever message that must be passed across with respect to cultural importance must be processed through digital means on order to get to the target audience which are the youths.

“The greatest medium to reach the young people that account for close to 70 percent of our population is through digital methods and for us to do that, we need to talk to the regulators. Apart from the fact that we have this message, we have a very crucial part of our enabling Act that says we are at the heart of cultural orientation to give Nigerians the real identity we seem to be looking for as a people.

“Without a cultural identity, we cannot afford a national identity. A man is born to appreciate his culture without been taught. The language he speaks is his cultural right, the food he eats, the clothes he wears and that is the first constituency of man”.

” NICO, on behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria is in the process of launching DuduPlugs, a Global Cultural Digital platform to showcase Nigeria’s diverse cultural heritage. We want to move from a singular usage digital platform to multi-facetted specialized dedicated online platforms for Nigeria’s cultural contents. Already, serious efforts have been made towards ensuring that this becomes a reality, However, this requires funding to serve as catalysts to these possibilities”.

“Providing a Competitive Edge in terms of turning Nigeria’s Cultural eco-system into a global interest and patronage , recognizing certain portions of our Culture have over 500M enthusiasts /viewers globally. Our research has shown that this ELECTRONIC PLATFORM can yield revenue in foreign exchange that will rival oil cent for cent. This has an estimated revenue generation capacity between 15-20billion USD per annum in 10 years that can triple as our cultural showcase becomes better”, he said.
