An afternoon and evening of festivities, education and fun will envelope Valparaiso University in Indiana, USA, as the university, today, Friday, September 8, 2012, celebrates the impact and value of African culture on the Global Community.
The festival focuses on Nigeria this year, with the theme, “Wazobia Nigeria,” supports the goal of Valparaiso University to bring awareness and understanding of African culture to the Great Lakes and South Shore regions, as well as highlighting the positive contributions of African culture to the world.
The special event marks Valparaiso University’s continued progress toward establishing the Sub-Saharan African Institute on campus, the Nigerian Cultural Institute, a project for which the Executive Secretary of National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO), Dr. Barclays Foubiri Ayakoroma, and some Directors visited Valpo in February 2011.
“Wazobia Nigeria” is expected to feature festival banquet and music, educational panel discussion on “Nigerian Culture, Economy and Arts,” African village with vendors of authentic handmade goods and crafts, fashion show, hair braiding, and a Gala Nite, among other events.
The ES is attending the programme with the Director, Orientation and Cultural Affairs, Mr. Festus Ihenetu, Deputy Director/SA-ES, Mr. Nelson Campbell, and a Team from the National Universities Commission (NUC), led by the Director, Management Services, Ibrahim I. Dan’iya.
