The Honourable Minster for Culture, Tourism and National Orientation, High Chief Edem Duke, has called on Nigerians to always do the right in order to transform Nigeria, thus underscoring the need for a slogan to involve all Nigerians in the Transformation Agenda of the President Goodluck Jonathan Administration.

Chief Duke, who stated this at the Ministerial Platform, said the slogan: “Do The Right Thing, Transform Nigeria, Transform Nigeria, Do The Right Thing,” has to be re-echoed and urged people to chant it every time.

He said: “President Goodluck Jonathan has brought a lot of innovations to Nigeria. There is need for all Nigerians to have a symbiotic relationship, so that we revitalize the nation in line with the efforts of the President Goodluck Jonathan administration. Culture and tourism can play vital role in transforming this country. Each Nigerian should make sure he tries to do the right thing always. That is why it is important we have this slogan to give a new sense of national orientation. The slogan is: Do The Right Thing, Transform Nigeria, Transform Nigeria, Do The Right Thing.”

Handing over an art work, with the inscription of the slogan, to the Honourable Minister for Information, Mr. Labaran Maku, Chief Duke added: “This slogan should become our new national acronym. Let us use it in the electronic, print and social media, in our offices, at home and in public places. If we build it into our consciousness, the attitude will sink into us.”

Continuing, he reminded Nigerians that it was not good to neglect culture and tourism because both have the potentials of providing foreign exchange to Nigeria, bring a new sense of direction and are capable of providing meaningful employment, noting: “A theatre practitioner can never be tired of the theatre, and then move into medical practice; but you can see a medical doctor practicing the theatre. Culture is one thing that brings unity among Nigerians and helps to reduce stress. So, with symbiotic relationship, we can make use of our diverse culture to enhance our tourism positional and make Nigeria the best tourism destination in Africa.”

In his remarks, the Minister for Information, Mr. Labaran Maku, said the Platform was part of activities marking Democracy Day 2012 and the 1st Anniversary of President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration, adding: “This administration has achieved a lot, yet many Nigerians are not seeing it that way. So, this platform put up by Ministry of Information is aimed at letting Nigerians at home and in the Diaspora meet with their Government. When President Goodluck Jonathan was campaigning, he promised Nigerians that he will not let them down. He has been working towards that since he came into office. The Minsters will give you progress report of the developments that have taken place so far.”

The Ministers, who spoke at the event, which took place at the National Press Centre, Radio House, Abuja, were the Minster for Culture, Tourism and National Orientation, Chief Edem Duke, Minster of Petroleum, Deziani Allison-Madueke, Minister of Communication Technology, Mrs. Omobola Jonson, Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Mr. Mohammed Bello Adoke (SAN), and Minister for Information, Mr. Labaran Maku.
