The Honourable Commissioner of Education, Adamawa State, Hon. Gabriel Hamma Adama, has applauded the efforts of the National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO), towards harnessing the rich cultural resources of the country to meet the challenges of social, integration, peace, unity and national development.
The Hon. Adama, who was speaking as the Special Guest of Honour, at the maiden edition of the NICO North-East Cultural Day Celebration, described the event in the Zone as very timely, since youths, who are the future leaders of the country, no longer take pride in the indigenous culture, due to western civilisation/education, under the guise of globalisation.
Though the challenges of culture revitalisation are enormous, he added, only collective and concerted efforts can make the Institute achieve her objectives and called on parents, guardians, public office holders, religious bodies, and pressure groups to support the Institute, so that the norms and values of our culture could be properly harnessed.
While presenting awards to the winning schools in Cultural Exhibition, the Honourable Commissioner, strongly tasked the schools, especially the best schools, not to let the country, as well as the Institute, down in the campaign of revitalising the indigenous culture.
